sounds to me to be a cooling problem - perhaps one memory chip that fails when it warms up or a poor solder connection in the power supplygreg
Maybe a poor solder on the motherboard? I was rather on the same path as you. It is intermittent. I've been trying to use the sleep mode when I leave the machine to see if that helps.
